US History at Barbara Cardwell Career Prep for Irving ISD, 2017 - 2020

My final teaching position was at Barbara Cardwell Career Prep. This position gave me the opportunity to work with a wide variety of students and help them to overcome their difficulties to become successful.

I taught the courses U.S. History since 1877 and A.P. US History for three years, challenging students to learn the history of our country and help decide where it will go from here. Just like previous schools, my scores were in the high 80% and low 90% passing.

Curriculum Writing

While at Barbara Cardwell, I was given the opportunity to write curriculum for the entire district during the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school year. Along with two others, I developed lessons for U.S. history, assessments, handouts, and everything needed for teachers to implement the lessons.

All high school social studies subjects at A+ Academy, 2012-2017

A+ Academy (now A+ Secondary) is a charter school part of the A+ Charter Schools system. I I spent five years at A+ Academy, and I was given the opportunity to teach every high school level social studies subject - world geography, world history, U.S. history since 1877, U.S. government, and economics. I was also given the opportunity to teach A.P. US History, A.P. World History, and A.P. Government.

I accomplished a lot while at A+ Academy. My last year I served as department head for the entire social studies department over four other teachers. I planned meetings, wrote up a vertical alignment for everyone to follow, and conducted trainings.

Perhaps my greatest accomplishment while at A+ Academy was the opportunity to present at the A.P. National Conference in Austin, Texas over the summer of 2015. My co-presenter and I presented over a cross-curricular project we did between English III A.P. and A.P. US History tying the Great Gatsby with the 1920s. While at the conference I was able to network with other teachers, and expanded my professional knowledge and experience.
